New tech hub for northern England announced
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg visited Sheffield today to launch TechNorth, a newly created tech hub for northern England which aims to bring together tech industries across the region to form an internationally renowned virtual hub.
It will be a part of Tech City UK, and will coordinate the expertise of Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool, Newcastle, Sunderland and the Tees Valley. The governments aims to do what Tech City UK did for East London and put TechNorth on the international map.
TechNorth aims to work with UKTI to help attracts investment and industry to the north and support existing businesses. It also wants to create a tech-savvy workforce by developing and retaining talent across the region whilst providing access to capital small firms need to get off the ground and grow.
