More students studying Maths and Science

Maths and science subjects help secure jobs with highest wages and lowest unemployment

Education Secretary Nicky Morgan has congratulated young people receiving their A-level results this week, and expressed her delight at the increasing number of students – particularly young women – studying maths and science subjects.

Since June 2010 entries in maths and the sciences have risen:

–          Biology increased by 10.7%

–          Chemistry increased by 21.5%

–          Physics increased by 18.5%

–          Maths increased by 15.3%

–          Further maths increased by 20.1%

Entries by women in maths and science since 2010 have also risen:

–          Maths increased by 10%

–          Physics increased by 16%

–          Chemistry increased by 23%

–          Biology increased by 16%
