Department of Energy and Climate Change appoints Professor John Loughhead OBE FREng FTSE
The Department of Energy and Climate Change announced on Thursday that it has appointed Professor John Loughhead OBE FREng FTSE as its new Chief Scientific Advisor. He is currently serving as the Executive Director at UK Energy Research Centre and will bring his extensive knowledge and experience in energy research to best advise the Government’s energy and climate change policies going forward.
Professor Loughhead will replace the incumbent David MacKay FRS, who has held the position since October 2009. Loughhead will start as the new Chief Scientific Advisor on the 22nd October. He has worked in energy research for more than 30 years, focusing primarily on industrial development in the electronics and electrical power sectors.
The Chief Scientific Advisor’s role is to make sure the DECC’s policies and operations, and its contributions to wider Government issues, are underpinned by the best science and engineering advice available.
