Proof has helped The Solar Cloth Company (TSCC) smash its crowdfunding target and raise £1 million to gear up for success. An early stage Cambridge cleantech company, TSCC is rapidly becoming a leader in a special kind of building integrated photovoltaics. The company develops products with flexible, lightweight solar cloth suitable for non-load bearing roof space where traditional solar panels cannot be placed or are not aesthetically pleasing.
Having won a string of industry awards, TSCC started crowdfunding through Crowdcube and called in Proof to provide media relations support to raise awareness of the funding round. Proof quickly developed media materials and used our unrivalled connections in the business and technology media to secure major coverage in the business pages of The Daily Telegraph, global broadcast media through Reuters Innovation and a host of impactful features in important targeted media such as The Engineer, Engineering & Technology, RIBA Journal, Chartered Institute of Building, Smithsonian, Business Green and Cambridge News. We also secured a video on Reuters which was syndicated across high profile websites The Huffington Post, MSN, Yahoo and Bing.
The coverage had a demonstrable effect with many of TSCC’s largest investors being made aware of the company for the first time through press articles. There were clear links between spikes of investment and specific publications. At the end of the crowdfunding period, TSCC had “overfunded” by receiving over £1 million investment against a target of £750,000.
“Proof were a crucial part of the team that achieved this success,” says TSCC founder Perry Carroll. “Their work had a real impact on our business and we are now in a position to scale up and drive the company forward to repay the faith shown in us by our investors.”
