New report by International Energy Agency hypes solar power’s potential
Solar power has the potential to be the number one source of electricity by 2050, according to a report released on Monday by the International Energy Agency. The report states that plummeting costs of solar equipment is fuelling rapid growth, which ultimately could see solar photovoltaic systems generating up to 16% of the world’s electricity, with solar thermal electricity potentially providing an additional 11% by the half century.
Solar photovoltaic panels are becoming increasingly common and are becoming very popular amongst homeowners. Solar panels have made up the fastest growing renewable energy technology since 2000, but only currently represent less than 1% of energy capacity worldwide.
