BBC: Star with unique chemical composition sheds light on stellar lifecycle

Scientists writing in the journal Science have said they have discovered the traces of an early massive stellar object in our galaxy. However, no definitive evidence has been put forward to back up the claim.

Lead author Dr Wako Aoki, from the National Observatory of Japan, said: “This is quite a unique star, with a very peculiar chemical pattern that has never been found previously.”

Commenting on the Science article, expert Dr Volker Bromm from the University of Texas, Austin, said:  “It was a very featureless, boring Universe. Then the first stars formed and fundamentally transformed it.”
