Government seeks innovative applications of synthetic biology in defence sector

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory’s (Dstl) Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) is making funds available for innovative applications of synthetic biology in the defence and security industries. It hopes to find innovations that can provide cost-effective advantage to the UK Armed Forces and national security.

CDE is making funding available for through a series of competitions designed to explore the opportunities presented by synthetic biology. The competition is split into two phases – the first phase will have £1 million available and the most successful phase one projects will progress to phase two, which is worth up to £3 million.

The competition is open for proposals now and closes on 6th November 2014.
