Telegraph: Women now account for an unprecedented 52% of the market
A survey conducted by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) asked over 4,000 individuals to identify their favourite gaming genres, revealing that puzzles and trivia games are particularly popular amongst women aged 25-44.
Steve Chester, the IAB’s director of data and industry programmes, told the Times: “[The internet and mobile devices have] brought down the barriers to entry, making gaming far more accessible and opened it up to a whole new audience. In the past you needed to go out and buy an expensive console and the discs on top to get a decent experience, now you can just download a free app.”
Apps have also now overtaken online and disc-based games as the dominant game format, played by over half of the online population.
